Theme: Experimental and theoretical studies of the metrical properties of the visual space.

Laboratory’s scientists concentrate mainly on issues concerning the peculiarities in the visual perception of size, shape, orthogonality, and curvature. The important part of the current scientific activity is further development of mathematical models of the geometric illusions of extent, with aim to explain the misperception of visual objects localization in terms of neural procedures of automatic centroid extraction.

Methods: psychophysical experiments, mathematical modeling.

Apparatus: visual stimulus generator VSG2/3 (Cambridge Research Systems), luminance calibration system OptiCAL (Cambridge Research Systems), eye movements registration system ViewPoint (Arrington), other standard psychophysical laboratory equipment.

Keywords: Visual perception distortions, geometric optical illusions.
